Princess Glass Slipper Craft

My daughter, like most little girls, is crazy about shoes. When I asked her yesterday what kind of craft she would like to do together she instantly replied "a shoe craft!!!" Well after some extensive google image searching and pinterest browsing I couldn't find one single kids shoe craft!! So I decided it was about due time someone put one out there. We created our own template, pulled out a bag of shiny and sparkly gemstones and tadda - a beautiful glass slipper encrusted with jewels, fit for a princess!!

What You'll Need

Our FREE printable template available HERE
Access to a printer
Pencil or marker
Cardstock
Scissors
White craft glue
LOTS of sparkly things

How-To

1. Print out our template and cut out glass slipper shape. Trace the template onto cardstock to create a sturdy base. Cut out your glass slipper.

2. Let your little one go wild decorating the shoe with as many sparklies as she can handle. Oohhhh shiny!! Allow glue to dry thoroughly before handling.

I have plans to frame up our finished show stopper in a shadow box for our little fashionistas bedroom. It'll make the perfect accent at her vanity table - something pretty and shiny to look at while she brushes her hair in the morning.

ZOMG!! This bed reminds me of something straight out of a fairytale. Never Trust Someone Holding Scissors - A Monday Mommy Rant

Before I had kids I used to take better care of myself. What Mom hasn't said that?? Well it's true. I used to go to the salon weekly. Nails done, hair done, everything did. I got my tan on, chatted with my cute, gay Jamaican stylist about Britney's latest hairstyle choice, basked in the fumes from hairspray and acrylic nail filler and just took it all in for hours. But really - I had nothing better to do with my time. I was 21 years old. To tell you the truth I would never want to go back in time and live those days again. But I will take the pre-baby body - thank you very much. Besides being as busy as every other Mom of three, the other reason I barely hit the salon these days is because of the big re-location I made upon conception of my first child. I moved about an hour and a half east away from the city and my favorite salon to a small town where I knew no one and even worse had no refuge to kick back and get my glam on. Enter hair hell. Even worse - hair purgatory. After a small handful of rather terrifying experiences in a salon chair I gave up and decided it was meant that I wear my hair as an homage to the Amish. 5 years + no hair cut = a style that was more Little House on the Prairie than hot mom that's still got it. And damnit - I've still got it!! With new found bravery I sucked it up and booked an appointment at yet another local, untried salon.

THIS is what I asked for. Pretty long side-swept bangs via Ashley Tisdale. I even brought this picture with me. I ADORE her hair. Don't judge me - I am NOT ready for a Mom cut quite yet.

THIS is what I ended up with.

If you do a google image search for "WTF" you will find this rather terrifying image amongst the search results. That's because that is the well deserving title I gave it.

Needless to say I will be keeping bobby pins handy at all times over the next few weeks while this monstrosity grows out. You'll be glad to know though that despite this ridiculous hair cut I do plan to continue to search for "the one" somewhere in this small town. Do you have a recommendation for a rockin hair stylist in the Northumberland area?? If so lemme know. Until then I will continue to be wary of anyone holding scissors.

C is for Caterpillar Counting Craft

We saw this craft (image above is not ours) on Pinterest one cold afternoon and my caterpillar loving gal couldn't wait to get started. I love this craft because it incorporates some pre-school counting practise..and when there's glue involved it doesn't seem so much like work. Check out the complete how-to over at Kiboomu. We didn't have any paper plates handy so we cut a large C shape from heavy cardstock. We taped our finished caterpillar up in our crafting area so we can get a little counting practice done daily while we wait for paint and glue to dry.

3 Conversations you should NEVER have with a Mom of Multiple Kids (A Monday Mommy Rant)

Ahhh...it's that time of week for a Mommy vent. This week I've been thinking (this could be dangerous) of those annoying conversations most of us have had with those that have either a serious lack of social skills or are just completely clueless as to what life is like when you have more than one child underfoot. I've been caught off guard more than once by irritating little jabs by both the general public and those that should really know better so it's about time I put it all out there - for the sake of Mom-kind. So without further ado here is my top list of 3 types of conversations you should NEVER have with a Mom of multiples.

1. "Are all of these yours??" "You have so MANY children." "I bet you have your hands full." "I hope you're using birth control." "You're not planning on have any more are you??" - These are the WORST kinds of conversations to have. Who is one to say how many children is TOO many for one particular family. For goodness sakes I personally have 3 kids and if I wanted more why should I publicly be made to feel awkward or ashamed for that?? Just for the record we ARE done at 3 - but please when I tell you that try not to sound so relieved!! It's not like we're trying to keep up with the Duggar's. And do you REALLY want to know EXACTLY how we're protecting ourselves from landing our family our own primetime show on TLC?? I don't exactly feel comfortable discussing my sex life with strangers, or family for that matter, so keep the birth control talk to yourself. And yes...I have my hands full. Thanks for stating the obvious while I am on 3 hours of sleep. If I wasn't so exhausted I would kick you in the groin.

2. "You look so tired." "Why aren't you sleeping when the baby sleeps?""Look at your boobs!!" "Can I see your stretch marks?" "Gaaawd..I am SO fat!"- Somehow first time Moms ALWAYS look wonderful. Always. I look back on photos of when I thought I looked terrible with my first child and my skin was glowing, my eyes were bright...I looked downright enthusiastic. Now on my third I am perpetually exhausted and running on what I can only describe as zombie-Mom mode 90% of the time. I'm there, I'm giving it my all but forming proper sentences is not coming as easily as it used to and...wait...is there baby vomit in my greasy ponytail?? When you ask a Mom with a newborn and other small children at home why she isn't sleeping when the baby sleeps you are giving her the assumption you are a little developmentally challenged. Please don't tell me I look tired. You may as well tell me I look like crap - which I am probably already aware of. No you cannot see my disgusting stretch marks. I know I look like a demented porn star with these new baby boobs. And if you tell me you look fat when you're skinny and I'm standing here all post-partum and jiggely one more time I may just go ballistic. I have back fat. I win.

3. Sometimes people just want to help. Most Moms I know have had MORE than their fair share of unwanted advice from strangers, friends and family on the best way to do pretty much EVERYTHING under the sun for their new babes. Let me tell you something - the more children you have, the quicker this gets old. There does get to be a point where you are so damn confident and comfortable in your mad Mommy skills that you're honestly surprised you haven't been signed for a book deal. Telling a Mom of 3, 4 or more that she isn't handling her childs sleep routine quite the right way or that she should really hold the bottle "this way" or that the best way to discipline a child is actually "like this" is really bloody annoying and a tad ridiculous. Trust me..most of us are already set in our ways by now and if we wanted help or advice we would probably ask for it or seek it out ourselves. Tread lightly. Pissing off a new Mom who is already hormonal and sleep deprived is not advisable. Some of us are not as passive aggressive as this Mom admits to being at times and will give you a deserved earful if you cross the line.

Ok..guess which picture is mine. I can tell you it's NOT the top one...wait, I gave it away. Well whatever, my photography skills (especially when it comes to that of taking pictures of food) are not quite as masterful as most food bloggers but the end results are equally as delicious I can assure you. Bread? Yum. Cheese? Yum. Onions? Yum. I decided to be a bad girl for just one night and whipped up The Girl Who Ate Everything's Blooming Onion Bread. I'm not sure how she got hers to look that pretty, clearly she has mastered the art of wielding a kitchen knife better than this foodie, but this is a case where a hot mess is considered a good thing. A gooey, chewy, too good to be damn true thing. We mixed things up by subbing the sourdough bread with a loaf of olive and herb bread...we're zesty like that. I can tell you what I didn't do...I didn't eat half of this loaf in one sitting while fighting piece for piece for the cheesiest most onion covered bits with my husband. No..I didn't do that at all. *hangs head in shame* Self restraint isn't my strong point.

The new year is here and I'm determined to make this year one to remember. 2011 was by far the most incredible year of my life thus far and reflecting has me thinking why not reach for the stars and make this year just as memorable. On a personal note 2011 brought us a beautiful baby girl (the final addition to our family) and my husband and I finally made it official getting married in beautiful Niagara-on-the-lake last July. I also launched my dream business endeavor, my accessories line Shine! Couture, and have been thrilled to see my goodies featured in local shops and adored by a loyal clientele base. Last year was also a big one for our little blog as well. Our top moments included Paris Hilton tweeting a link to our blog (holy page hits batman!!), being selected as a recipient for a blog grant in Spring 2011 from Mom Central Canada, taking part in the amazing KinderMom program from Mom Central and meeting some inspiring and super talented fellow mom bloggers over the blogesphere. Who knows what 2012 will bring but I can tell you this - we cannot wait to see what's in store!! Bring it on!!

I call her my sweet little bean...and she has been keeping us all on our toes lately. The very talented Erin Campbell Photography staged the perfect newborn photoshoot with our little gal when she was just 13 days old. We learned during our almost 4 hour session that it takes paramount skill and unrelenting patience to artistically photograph a new little wee one. Erin's ability to shush our little princess back into dreamland made me want to tuck her into my back pocket and bring her home with us. I can't wait to see how the rest of our beautiful photos turn out. Thank you to all of our supportive readers who have had patience with us while we adjust to a new schedule.

A 5 Minute Holiday Headband

Have a few minutes?? Then why not whip up this fun and easy headband that is sure to add a little sparkle to your little ones wardrobe this winter.

What You'll Need -

Hot glue gun
Headband Blank (can be found at most craft and dollar stores)
1 blue ostrich feather and 4 white saddle feathers (my fave place to buy feathers is HERE.)
A snowflake or winter embellishment (we found ours in the scrapbooking aisle)

How-To

1. Slowly and carefully using the hot glue adhere the blue ostrich feather to the headband blank as shown below.

2. Starting in the bottom center of the ostrich feather, begin gluing your white saddle feathers. Layer the feathers one at a time creating a fuller look.

3. Glue your winter embellishment to the base of the feathers. We added a sparkly gem to the center of our snowflake to make it pop. We found a package of a dozen of these gems for only $1 at our local dollar store.

Tadda!! Instant holiday glam!!

How (Not) To Induce Labor (A Monday Mommy Rant)

A week after giving birth to a beautiful and perfect little lady I can barely believe that not so long ago I was hugely pregnant and just as hugely uncomfortable. This last pregnancy admittedly completely kicked my behind. 9 months pregnant, swollen, sore, moody and waddling after 2 small and needy children was just about enough to land me in a rubber room wearing white after labor day. So like most women that have been there, done that, I, in all of my hormonal desperation, hit google looking for a magic fix. Be warned...what you are about to read is not pretty, and probably not advisable. First off let me say that you should never try and induce labor before the 38 week mark. It's not safe for your baby, so suck it up, dream of a martini and go find something delicious to eat while you can still use your pregnancy as an excuse to eat like garbage. There is a reason I titled this post "How (NOT) to induce labor". Simply said - this shit doesn't work. But hey, anything is worth a shot when your husbands go-to line when he's looking for some action is now "Hey, can I harpoon that later??" And without further ado here are my favorite tried, tested and true methods of how NOT to induce labor.

1. Eat pineapple. That's kind of vague isn't it? I decided an entire pineapple would probably do the job. Unless all you want to do induce is vomiting and you enjoy the sensation of having the first layer of your taste buds acidically removed I wouldn't suggest going this route.

2. Bounce on an exercise ball. I did this..for hours..while my husband could barely suppress his amusement. There is something about a women in that stage of pregnancy bouncing repeatedly on a giant rubber ball that resembles something you would expect to see in a side show.

3. Drink balsamic vinegar. Vinegar is one of those things where less is truly more. Just take my word for it.

4. Acupressure. How the $#%& is rubbing the webbing between my fingers supposed to bring on contractions?? A complete waste of a perfectly good potential nap. Some people swear by this - I call bologna.

5. Walk up and down the stairs. Gallop like a horse. Do squats. Sit on your hands and knees like a dog and rock back and forth. Things got a little strange around my house that evening.

6. Eat spicy foods. Eat greasy foods. Eat licorice. All you're going to accomplish here is a food baby.

What May Help -

The one thing I HATED hearing more than anything else was - "Have sex with your husband!!" My first instinct was always to retort - "Why don't YOU do it?!" The last thing any woman at that stage of pregnancy wants to do is get it in. Buuut - there's a reason they say it works. Semen contains prostaglandins, hormones that are known to ripen and soften the cervix for labor. And if by some miracle you can have an orgasm at that stage in your pregnancy contractions can be induced from the hormone oxytocin that your body naturally releases. It's worth a shot.

Aaand then there's the raspberry leaf tea. Contrary to what some say this tea is actually known more for strengthening your cervix than bringing you into active labor. Considering how quickly and smoothly my labor moved along I can't help but think perhaps the pots and pots of tea I consumed the last couple of weeks helped in the process. Or maybe it was just luck.

Our Newest Addition

She's here!! Our little beauty, baby Aaliyah, was born Friday, November 25th at 3:20pm weighing 7 pounds and 11 ounces and measuring 20.5 inches long. We are all so in love!! Mommy is recouping well with help from a very supportive hubby. Older brother Aiden and big sister Arianna are completely smitten with the final addition to our now not-so-little (but enormously happy) family. And baby makes 5!! Thanks everyone for your well wishes and understanding during the past few busy and turbulent weeks!! XOXO

We whipped up these candy bar cupcakes after last Halloween and handed them out to eager friends and family following a serious candy overdose. So I had ulterior motives for trying to pass off some of our excess candy?? When cleverly disguised as a cupcake no one seemed to mind helping us out with our overabundance of the sugary sweet stuff.

After taking a short break from blogging I sat back and thought about what it is exactly I want to see and have people enjoy when they take the time to visit us here. We've been known to cover a wide variety of topics that appeal to moms and non-moms alike but lately I've been feeling a little overwhelmed with the assortment of topics I was regularly contributing.

We have decided while we will continue to cover a variety of tidbits we are going to have a LOT more of the following here from this day forwards: Eye candy - fashion finds, home decor trends, fun products for mom and babe alike, spotted desserts, drinks and beauty trends. MORE step by step tutorials and how-to projects. MORE kids crafts. We are also going to be incorporating a new love for local and events section showcasing small businesses and happenings in the Northumberland region area and throughout southern Ontario.

Giving Back with Seventh Generation

One of our favorite brands, Seventh Generation, is doing something remarkable this month and thanks to their generosity we had the opportunity to take part in their cross-Canada diaper donation program. All of this month whenever a package of Seventh Generation diapers is purchased across our country one package will be donated to a women's shelter in need. Up to 240,000 packages of diapers will be donated across Canada this month. That's a whole lot of diapers for mothers in need. To read more about the program click HERE.

I was thrilled to be asked to take part in the program and donate a box containing 4 bags of Seventh Generation Diapers to a women's shelter in my own community. It was obvious to me right away which deserving organization I would forward this generous gift to. Northumberland Services for Women located in my small town of Cobourg, Ontario helps hundreds of women and families every year escape domestic violence and find a fresh start. Their services include a women's and children's shelter program, free counseling services, access to a resource center and a housing assistance program. This wonderful organization has helped change the lives of countless families in my community - including my own. I am proud to say that seven years ago with the guidance and support of members of NSFW, I, along with my then infant son, escaped domestic violence and were able to find our very own fresh start. Life has changed a GREAT deal for us since then but I never forgot the difference that support made in our lives when we were in a time of need. Giving back, even that one box filled with diapers, felt long overdue.

A Fairy Hideaway

Our daughter has quite the fascination with all things fairy-like lately. We love to see her smile so we have been working hard at transforming her bedroom into a space a garden fairy would be proud to call home. An empty corner in our little gals bedroom was practically begging for a little something special so we created this fairy net hideaway from some bits and pieces we had around the house along with some faux fleurs for under $10. It's the perfect place to curl up with a book, have a giggle and dream big dreams.

Here's How We Did It (no sewing required!!) -

What You'll Need

A Hula Hoop
1-2 yards of tulle (depending on how the desired length)
Hot glue gun
Scissors
Ribbon
Faux Flowers (we found the best deal at our local dollar store)

How-To

1. Fold the end of the tulle over the hula hoop from the outside to the inside and using the hot glue adhere to the inside of the hula hoop. Go all the way around until the width of tulle is fully adhered to the inside of the hula hoop creating a tent. You can leave an opening at the front of the tent or adhere the tulle all the way around...it's up to you.

2. Cut small slits in the exterior of the tent every quarter of the diameter. Tie lengths of ribbon through each of the holes and around the hoop. Double knot. Bring all 4 pieces of ribbon together to form the hanging system for the tent - as seen in top photo.

3. Glue fabric flowers around the exterior edges of the hula hoop for decorative flourish.

4. Hang the fairy net from a sturdy, anchored hook. Trim any excess tulle or ribbon.

Handprint Turkey

Happy gobble gobble weekend my Canadian friends!!! Celebrate with your little ones by crafting a keepsake turkey decked out in feathers in all of their favorite colors. This craft can be thrown together in only a few minutes so it's the perfect activity to work on in between prepping dishes for a Thanksgiving feast.

What You'll Need

Brown paint and a paintbrush
White cardstock or construction paper
Colorful feathers
Googly eyes
Orange and red craft foam or construction paper
Scissors
White craft glue

How-To

1. Paint your childs hand with the brown paint and press onto white paper as shown above. Baby wipes kept nearby make for easy clean up.

2. Glue colorful feathers over the fingers of the handprint. Glue a googly eye on the thumb. Cut a red shape from the craft foam to form the turkey's wattle. Cut 2 rectangular shapes from the orange craft foam to form the legs. Glue pieces into place. Allow ample drying time.

Making Time for Play

As previously announced I have been working with Mom Central and Kinder to celebrate the ways families make time for FUN every day. With kids back in school and routines in full swing a lot of families struggle to find that balance and make time for moments to celebrate the joy of simply being a kid. Have you made time to play today??

Let's face it Moms - sometimes it can be tricky to be the kind of parent that we imagine ourselves as inside of our own heads. At times it seems downright impossible to live up to our own expectations. Being a work at home Mom I know all about juggling meetings, deadlines, school pick-ups/drop-offs, housework, preparing meals and running errands. Sometimes amongst it all finding that special time to simply play with our little ones can seem overwhelming. One important thing I have taught myself to remember is that my kids don't have the same expectations as I have self-created. Finding time to play can be as simple as busting out some bath paints during tub time or making a quick detour to a local park on the way home from school. When you make the most of the little moments you have in a day you can suddenly carve out all kinds of special time with your little ones that they are sure to remember. Here are 5 of our favorite ways to create play with our family during even the busiest moments in our day to day lives.

1. Stock a drawer, container or cupboard with kid friendly crafty supplies. When I have to attend to a load of dishes, prep a meal or check my email messages I always bust something out of those drawers to keep my little ones busy. While I am being productive my mini Picasso's are creating something beautiful to add to our refrigerator display. We fill our drawer with paper, coloring books, water color paints, stickers, safety scissors, glue sticks, pom poms, stamps, markers, crayons and pastels. I also try to keep the drawer stocked with fun seasonal printables found on such online sites as Crayola, Enchanted Learning and Busy Bee Kids Printables.

2. Have fun together in the kitchen!! Have your kiddos help out to whip up a new recipe together or help to prepare dinner. Toddlers can tear lettuce for a salad, stir batter or simply have a great time playing with an assortment of measuring cups, spoons and bowls. We fill the bottom drawer in our kitchen with kid friendly kitchen tools so even the littlest members of the family can get involved in making a mess and having fun. Try making a batch of our Aggression Cookies for hands on fun.

3. Play outside!! Even a trip to the mailbox can be made into an adventure. Try collecting items from nature to make a pretty seasonal craft collage. Go on a sound safari listening out for sounds found in your local neighborhood. Examine bugs, leaves and flowers with a magnifying glass. If you have a spare few minutes make a detour to your local park - play a game of tag, see who can swing highest on the swings, roll down a grassy hill.

3. Take play time to the tub. Whip up a batch of our homemade Bath Paints, create some Iceburgs or some Sponge Boats. Splash, blow handfuls of bubbles, play song games.

4. Build a fort. Whether it's out of couch cushions, chairs and a favorite blanket or a cardboard box, building a secret hideaway is a guaranteed quick way to squeeze a bit of imaginative play into a busy day. Cuddle up inside and read a book or watch a favorite tv show. Slay imaginary dragons or take a trip into outer space. Use your imagination and don't forget to giggle!!

5. Have a tea break. Sometimes Mommy just needs to put her feet up with a hot coffee or tea and take a breather for a moment or two. Turn this little break into something fun for the kids by setting up a tea party in the middle of your living room floor. Have kiddos spread out a blanket and collect all of their favorite stuffed animals to join in while you brew yourself a cup of something special. If your drinking caffeine free tea let your little ones join in and have a teacup with an icecube stashed inside for their own brew. Teddies can be served pretend tea while you sip your own and nibbles can be shared for everyone to enjoy.

There are so many ways you can make time for fun with your family if you think outside the box and imagine how you can make the most out of every moment. Think like a kid - every moment can be a chance for something fun!! All you need is a little imagination.

Our Top 5 FAVE Vegetarian Products (Happy Meatless Monday!!)

October is Vegetarian Awareness Month and our proud vegetarian family is celebrating by sharing with you our top 5 picks for best vegetarian products. Being a vegetarian nowadays is without a doubt a lot easier and a lot tastier than it has ever been. Whether you are a full time veg head, enjoy trying out the occasional meatless meal or just love trying out something new why not incorporate one of our favorites into your meal plan this week??

1. Tofurkey Roast & Gravy. 100% vegan. By far my FAVORITE vegetarian product out there. If I was on death row and asked by the warden what I would like for my last meal..this would be it. It's that good. A Tofurkey roast is the perfect alternative at holiday meals. While everyone else is enjoying their turkey or ham this Thanksgiving I will be gorging on Tofurkey. A special occasion isn't necessary to enjoy this bad boy. We eat a Tofurkey roast every couple of weeks in our household.

2. Gardein Mandarin Orange Crispy Chick'n. 100% vegan. We tried this new favorite for the first time this Summer at the annual Toronto Vegetarian Food Festival. I was amazed by the texture, flavor and crunch of this instant classic. Gardein claims this stuff is better than take-out - and they're not kidding. My husband, a meat eater, will down an entire package of this served atop rice and then come back asking for more. As far as texture goes this product takes first place. I don't know how they did it, but I'm sure glad they did.

3. Veggie Patch Simulated Chick'n Nuggets. If you have vegetarian kids at home this product will become, if it hasn't already, a staple in your refrigerator. I haven't met a kid, meat eaters included, that have turned their nose up at these tasty morsels. Whether your dunking in a favorite sauce, adding to a salad or wrapping up in a tortilla you really can't go wrong serving up this meatless version of a family favorite.

4. Yves Veggie Cuisine Italian Veggie Ground Round. Non-vegetarians are ALWAYS asking us what it is that we eat and are confused when they hear my husband speak of his favorite vegetarian dishes such as shepherds pie and meatloaf. Ground Round can be substituted in any recipe that would normally call for ground meat of any kind. Hello options!! Our very favorite is the Italian seasoned variety which works well in every recipe we have tried and has a little more kick that the original ground round version. Needless to say our freezer is kept constantly in stock of this versatile product.

5. Tofurkey Oven Roasted Deli Slices. 100% vegan. After trying many different meatless deli slices on the market I was elated when I finally stumbled across the Tofurkey brand a few weeks ago. These deli slices make a mean sandwich and are sliced thin which can be enjoyed a variety of ways. Add some deli slices to a sub, a childs lunchbox sandwich or stack 'em high on a classic Reuben. The best hands down for taste and texture when it comes to vegetarian sandwich "meats".

I delighted my daughter with this silly turkey themed lunch this week. For my hard work I was rewarded with her very best imitation of the autumn bird which resembled something between an actual turkey and a happily grazing cow - "mooogoooobblegoooobble". Our vegetarian "turkey" sandwich was created with tofurkey sandwich "meat", cheese, fall colored peppers and candy eyes. Everything tastes better when it's in a fun shape doesn't it??

Harvest Queen Crown

All hail the queen of Autumn!! To celebrate Fall we decided to create a harvest queen crown one afternoon last week. This whimsical crown now rarely leaves our little gals head. If you have been around here lately than you have surely spied our petite princess donning her crown and announcing loudly - "I win!!!" Keep on winning little one.

Want to make one of your own?? Here's what you'll need -

2 pieces of sturdy 12x12 cardstock
Scissors
Scotch tape
White craft glue
Fall leaves (real or fabric...fabric will last longer but will require a stapler to attach)
Fall colored feathers
Stickers, gems, or whatever else you can find to match your color scheme

How-To

1. Scotch tape the 2 pieces of cardstock together side by side. Use this lengthened piece of cardstock and wrap around your childs head for an accurate measurement. Trim the cardstock as needed. Cut large pointed triangles to form the crowns peak from the cardstock. Tape the ends of your crown together once you are satisfied with the overall shape.

2. Attach fabric leaves with a stapler or real leaves with a healthy dollop of white glue. Finishing decking out your crown with the other decorative bits and pieces. We also decorated some printable leaves found HERE and added those to our crown as well. Allow to dry.

This blog is a labor of love and has become a family affair. With my new accessories line taking off to such a successful start, my husband working more hours at his new job and the two of us working on the launch of another business project, things have been...well...a little hectic. We will continue to post about what inspires us from day to day, fun and fab finds, craft and recipe happenings and the like...with the occasional time lapse in between posts when things get frantic. Autumn Wreath Craft

Celebrate Autumn by creating one of these festive Fall wreathes with your kiddos. All you need is some sturdy cardstock (or even thin cardboard like the insides of a cereal box), real or faux fall leaves, feathers, acorns and other fall finds - get creative. Cut a wreath form from your cardstock or cardboard and then go crazy gluing on your fall finds. We ended up needing to use a stapler to attach our fabric leaves since standard craft glue wasn't quite doing the trick. Tadda - beautiful fall decor made by your favorite little craftster.

This week we served up a special lunch my kids went crazy for. Owl sandwiches with a cucumber snack tree. Our sandwiches were standard pb&j with cucumber slices and rasins for eyes and a cheese triangle for the nose. Trees were created with yet more cucumber slices and cheese bits for the trunk.

Keeping my home eco-friendly has always been something that is important to me - especially since starting my own family. When I think about the kind of future I want for my children, the kind of place I want them to grow and thrive in and one day start families of their own...the reasons why couldn't be any more obvious. I am truly a believer that good habits start at home. We have taught our children from a very young age the important of taking care of our planet as much as we take care of our bodies. After all...we only have one of each of those things and when the environment we spend our time in is healthy and flourishing our bodies reflect that goodness. Take the air quality in our homes for example. Have you ever thought about how many different chemicals you release into the air day to day with common every day cleaning products?? Studies have proven that the average person is exposed to 100 different chemicals per day - and that's just in personal care products. Stop!! Hold up a minute!! Do NOT throw out that old crib!! I know..I know..after a few babes have had their turn upon it an old crib can certainly look worse for wear. There definitely gets to be a point where it's just no longer safe to let a little head rest inside of an old, worn out crib. I speak from experience...I have one such crib in my home. Give an old crib a fresh new start by re-purposing it into something brand spanking new. You will not believe what some people have managed to create from their old cribs. Get ready to be inspired. DIY Gel Air Freshener

These homemade gel air fresheners would make a great gift and are a fabulous way to create custom, fresh scents for around your home. Try experimenting with different essential oils to create the ambiance you are looking for in every room of your house.

What You'll Need

A clean empty jar, we used a regular sized baby food jar. This recipe is JUST the right amount to fill a jar of this size.
1 tsp. of essential oil in scent of your choice (our fave place to shop for essential oils is Canwax.
Food coloring, in color of choice
2 pouches of unflavored gelatin
1/2 cup boiling water
1/2 cup very cold water

How-To

1. In a medium sized mixing bowl add the boiling water to the gelatin powder and whisk until dissolved.

2. Whisk in essential oil and a few drops of your desired shade of food coloring. Mix in the cold water.

3. Funnel liquid into the jar and leave out at room temperature until thickened. Do NOT place the jar in the fridge.

Tadda!! Custom home fragrance created in minutes!!

*Updated Tip - I found while this air freshener smelled delightful it only has a shelf life of 1-2 weeks depending on the humidity of the room you place it in.

I've heard stories of kiddos that dread bathtime. Such little ones have to be practically dragged or bribed to be coaxed into the tub. This is a phenomenon I have never personally bared witness to. Why?? Because my kids LOVE bathtime!! We keep bathtime fun by mixing things up with scented bubbles, a wide assortment of toys, bath paints and crayons and of course the odd craft project to add a little whimsy to tub time. My kids practically have to drag ME up the stairs to get in their nightly bath.

Today we made these fun sponge boats with a few commonly found items in only minutes. Whip up a batch of your own with colorful sponges, straws and some craft foam. You're kids are sure to find delight in this simple before bed-time craft.

Pumpkin Pie Fudge

It's September!! Rather than cringe in horror at the leaves falling upon my walkway as in years gone by I decided this year I would embrace the changing seasons. Fall brings with it more than enough reasons to be excited after all. The start of another school year, an excuse to go shopping for new seasonal clothing and let's not forget all of the tasty treats this cooler season has to offer. Apples...and squash..and pumpkins..oh my!! Maybe it's the pregnancy talking but I love pumpkin pie in all of it's many forms. This pumpkin pie fudge turns things up a notch giving one of my favorite seasonal treats brand new life. Made with white chocolate, marshmallow cream and of course pureed pumpkin this decadent dessert will have you praising the changing colors of the leaves and the crisp fall air. All hail Autumn!!

I found this recipe via Southern Living and it does not disappoint. One batch makes far more than enough to share and is a sure-fire crowd pleaser. We used a bag of Hershey's white chocolate chips in place of the 12 ounce package of white chocolate morsels. If you don't own a candy thermometer you can find one for under $10 at any Walmart. To achieve just the right consistency we recommend you don't try making your own fudge without one. It's worth the minor investment.

Spotted - (and tested!!) Crock-Pot Baked Apples

We spotted this delicious recipe for crock-pot baked apples on Pinterest a few weeks back and knew it would the the perfect dessert to launch us into Fall. We found we had to double the amount for the filling with the recipe found at Skinny Chef but the end result was a definite hit. The cooked apples are soft, flavorful and juicy and make the perfect counterpart for some vanilla bean ice cream or some fresh whipped cream. Next time we will try using pecans in place of the walnuts. Bring on the fall - we're ready for ya!!!

Kinder Re-Launches in Canada (AND I'm a KinderMom!!)

Kinder Eggs take me back. When I was a little girl I would save up my hard earned allowance to splurge on the sweet chocolate treat. 10 Things to try with your family before the end of Summer.

Summer is not over - it's true!! I know for some it is tempting but this Mom is not ready to give up the warm Summer days we have left to celebrate the soon-to-be arrival of Fall quite yet. This magical time only comes around a few months per year so let's put thoughts of fall aside...just for now...and make the most of the time we have left of beautiful, warm, wonderful Summer vacation. Here's a few ways you can create some lasting memories with your family while the sun is still shining.

1. Go star gazing. On a clear, warm night gather your crew together with a large blanket and some snackage and see how many constellations you can spy. Snuggle together and make a wish on a star. Check out this awesome link for free printable sky maps you can tailor for the current month and time of night for optimal viewing opportunities - KidsAstronomy.com.

2. Go on a Summer scavenger hunt. Create a custom list of Summer sights to spy and go on an outdoor adventure seeking natures treasures with promises of a treat for all in the end. For younger kids try making the list using pictures or drawings to make seeking an easier feat. Some things to look for high and low - a pinecone, 3 different kinds of leaves, a feather, a dandelion, a white flower, a helicopter maple seed, a clover leaf, a smooth rock...use your imagination. Bring beach pails along for collecting goodies. Try a variation of this hunt with older kids by trying a photo scavenger hunt and providing disposable cameras. Get creative with ideas of pics your kids can take of things and happenings around your neighborhood.

3. Open a lemonade stand. One Charming Par ty shares free printables to give your lemonade stand an extra special touch. Free printables include "Fresh Lemonade" sign, treats and sweets sign, cookie labels and a cute employee rules sign. Try whipping up a batch of our favorite lemonade recipe by juicing 6 lemons and adding to a blender. Next mix 1/2 cup hot water and 1 cup of sugar to make a syrup. Add the syrup along with 5-6 cups of cold water to the blender and blend on high. Guaranteed fabulous lemonade EVERY time. If your blender will not accommodate this much liquid half the recipe and mix your lemonade in batches.

4. Enjoy some fun on the water and rent a paddle boat or canoe for an afternoon with your family. Make sure little ones are wearing life jackets!!

5. Tie-dye some t-shirts. Parents Magazine shares a great step-by-step how-to on this classic Summer activity to enjoy with your children. The tutorial shares several different styles of tie-dying that are sure to leave you feeling groovy.

6. Be a tourist in your own city. Make like an out of towner, take your camera along and take part in activities or festivals that make your hometown unique. Discover your hometown pride by looking into the history of the place you call home and sharing what you learn with your family. You may be surprised by what you uncover. You will never look at your town quite the same way again.

7. Host a backyard movie night. Pottery Barn shares how to create your own backyard movie screen using sheets, poles and rope. Add a projector and you will have the most happening yard in town. Snuggle close in comfy blankets with buttered popcorn and enjoy a movie experience your family will never forget.

8. Make freezer bag ice cream. Your kids will go crazy for shaking up this ice cream in a bag created by 2 Little Hooligans using ingredients commonly found in the average kitchen. The perfect treat for a hot and sticky afternoon.

9. Gather around a bonfire. Have your children gather wood for starting the fire, sticks for roasting marshmallows and help prep bonfire treats to give them a real sense of involvement and pride in the nights festivities. Make sure to keep a bucket of water close-by and educate your children on bonfire safety. Make s'mores, sing songs and tell ghost stories.

10. Spend an entire afternoon at the beach - bring lots of suncreen!! Build monstrous sand castles, make sand angels, fly a kite, have a picnic in the sand, run from the tide, comb the beach for treasures (bring along a small jar to bring your own bit of beach home with you), race rubber ducks, play frisbee, create sea creatures out of driftwood, bury mom or dad in sand, toss a beach ball back and forth....and take LOTS of pictures!!

Orange Dream Cupcakes

This citrus spin on a classic cupcake is sure to brighten anyone's day!! Yes those are dino themed sprinkles you are seeing - these little guys brought with them an end to our dinosaur theme - but quite deliciously. Even my husband proudly packed a few of these suckers into his lunch bag to share with co-workers with no shame of the kid-friendly topped frosting. You're never too old to enjoy sprinkles on top of...well anything!!

The Cupcakes

Ingredients

1/2 cup butter
1 cup sugar
2 large eggs
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1/2 tsp. orange extract
1 3/4 cups flour, sifted
1/2 tsp. salt
2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 cup orange juice

How-To

1. Preheat oven to 350. Combine butter, sugar, eggs, vanilla and orange extract together in a large bowl. Mix until smooth and creamy.

2. In a separate bowl whisk together flour, salt and baking powder. Add dry ingredients to creamed ingredients in 3 portions alternating with portions of the orange juice.

3. Spoon batter into cupcake liners until 2/3 full. Bake for 18-20 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean. Allow cupcakes to cool before adding frosting.

Orange Frosting

Ingredients

1/2 cup butter
3-4 cups icing sugar
1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
1/2 tsp. orange extract
1/8 cup fresh orange juice

How-To

1. Beat butter until light and creamy. Add the icing sugar, vanilla extract, orange extract and orange juice and whip until fluffy. Add more icing sugar to thicken or more orange juice to moisten. To achieve more of an orange color add a drop or two of food coloring.

2. Frost yo cupcakes.

Zig A Zig Ah!! (Our love for Chevrons)

We are absolutely crazy for all things covered in chevron. In case you haven't noticed chevron patterns are EVERYWHERE right now. This trend is being seen in the home, on our clothes and everywhere in between. You can achieve this look at home easily with a painted canvas, a throw pillow or even by going all out and decking out an entire wall in sassy chevrons. My husband was not entirely thrilled with the idea of painting a wall in our temporary home in this pattern....but maybe once the big move happens next year he'll be a little more flexible. Pretty Floral Clipboards

I have an annoying tendency to allow to-do lists to pile up all over my desk. This tendency nags on my other tendency to be a little on the organized obsessive compulsive side. I have an over active mind and as most Moms know it's easy to forget what is going on from one moment to the next with children to chase after. Soo...my scribbles of project ideas, errands to run and phone calls to make lays scattered across the surface of my computer desk. I just couldn't take it any longer!!

I created these custom clipboards to hang on the side of my craft pantry which happens to be right next to my over cluttered work surface. A home for my lists and post-it notes!! Hooray!! Pretty aren't they?? These lovelies were created by spray painting the metal clip white and decoupaging with floral scrapbooking paper. I sanded down all the edges with an emery board to get rid of any access paper and glue and create a smooth even appearance. Ahhh..one less pile of disorganized mayhem.

Creamsicle Smoothies

Mmmmm....this smoothie is like drinking down an ice cold creamsicle. The ultimate refresher for a hot Summer day!! Get your blenders ready...set...go!!

What You'll Need

1 can mandarin oranges, drained
1/2 cup frozen pineapple chunks
1/2 cup vanilla yogurt
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1/2 cup vanilla soy milk
1/2 cup orange juice
1/2 cup ice (add more if desired)

How-To

1. Combine all ingrendients in blender and blend on high. Add more ice if desired until icy smooth consistency is achieved.

These shiny baubles are a top seller for my new accessories line Shine! Couture. Little girls deserve a little shine of their own and why not show it off by creating your very own stretchy beaded ribbon bracelet??

What You'll Need

Metallic jewelry elastic (can be found at any craft store, walmart or even dollerama)
7 Large 20mm sized beads, we go wild for bright colors and multi-faceted styles
Satin Ribbon
Scissors
Lighter (I like using a bbq lighter to keep the flames away from my delicate fingertips!!)

How-To

1. Cut a 12 inch length of elastic and fold over to create one double 6 inch piece. This will make the bracelet stronger.

2. Thread beads onto the elastic one by one. Take 2 ends and tie together fairly tightly into a wreath knot. Triple knot for added durability. A wreath knot is also known as a reef knot or a square knot. A great step-by-step how-to on creating this style of knot can be found on Howcast.

3. Tie a bow over the elastic knot with the satin ribbon. Heat seal the ends of the bow with a lighter to create a fray-proof edge. *Tip - Don't hold the lighter TOO close...test this technique out on a piece of scrap ribbon first to get the hang of it. It's much easier than it may sound!!

Pink Lemonade Frosties

Who doesn't love a tall glass of ice cold lemonade on a hot Summer day?? Our pink lemonade frosty takes beating the heat one step further by blending our favorite lemonade recipe with handfuls of ice to create the perfect Summer treat.

Pink Lemonade Frosty

What You'll Need

3 lemons
1/4 cup hot water
1/2 cup sugar
2 1/2 cups cold water
Ice cubes, approx. 2 cups
Grenadine, a few drops to achieve desired color

How-To

1. Roll the lemons on a hard surface to soften them up and increase the flow of juices. Juice lemons and place juice straight into the blender.

2. Mix the sugar and hot water together to form a syrup. Add syrup to the blender.

3. Add cold water, about 2 cups of ice cubes and a few drops of grenadine to the blender and blend on high. Add more ice cubes to achieve a thicker, frostier consistency.

Pour into tall glasses and enjoy!! Makes 4 servings.
