Rainbow Mobile Tutorial

One of the most creative gals I know, Alexandra from Kinderpendent, is back and has supplied us with yet another fabulous tutorial contributing to our recent Spring theme. A whimsical Rainbow Mobile!! Check out the step-by-step below.

materials needed:
felt in an assortment of colors: red, orange, yellow, blue, purple
a stick
paint
access to a sewing machine

1. Paint your stick to match the sky. White or light blue make good sky choices. (This is a great time to include the kiddo!)
2. While the stick is being painted, go ahead and cut your felt pieces in the shape of a rainbow. Each color will fit inside the previous color. (I suggest cutting 2 or 3 matching pieces of each color to sew together--the thicker your rainbow rows, the sturdier they will be.)
3. Let the paint dry, and move on to the sewing machine.

4. Sew the edges of each row of the rainbow (sewing together the duplicate pieces to make the rows firmer). Tie & cut the ends.
5. Pull about 12-18 inches of thread out from your machine. Then sew the mobile pieces together in the center, leaving about 1/2 inch between each piece. Cut at the bottom & tie.
6. If your top pieces are too floppy, sew an extra line down each corner of the red piece (see photos), first pulling extra thread through the top again. Cut at the bottom & tie.
7. Tie the excess top thread firmly onto the center of the stick about 6 inches from the rainbow. Leave the thread uncut, using the leftover thread to hang the mobile.
8. This can be hung from the ceiling as a mobile, or against the wall as wall art. Enjoy!
